Diversity & Inclusion Work at Taipei American High School

Speaker at Black Lives Matters Rally in Taiwan

My work with Taipei American High School has been a valuable experience for the school community and my personal growth as a consultant in diversity, equity, inclusion, conflict, resolution, and identity work. The opportunity to work with faculty, students, and parents on these issues was a great learning experience for me and a chance to provide valuable insights to the school community.

One of the essential teaching opportunities presented in this partnership was addressing unresolved historical trauma and its impact on governmental and community frameworks. During my Taiwan & Black History Presentation, I presented a comparative narrative that showed the similar acts of violence that occurred in both African American and Taiwanese history and how these acts impacted the development of both communities. This presentation was well-received and led to workshops and small seminars for faculty, students, and parents in Conflict, Identity, and Resolution work.

In addition, I provided college pre-talks to seniors heading out to U.S Universities. I utilized my experience working in University admission offices to offer valuable insights to students preparing to attend college. This work was particularly valuable, given the unique challenges and opportunities of studying in a different country and culture.

Through this partnership, I also had the opportunity to develop further curricula on race, identity, conflict, community support, and leadership development issues. This work has been particularly valuable in refining my skills as a consultant and helping me better understand how to address these issues in a school setting.

Overall, my work with Taipei American High School has been a valuable experience, providing a strong model for other schools across Taiwan looking to address issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, conflict, resolution, and identity work. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such a committed and engaged school community, and I look forward to continuing this work.
